Day at Duke Park

Blending art and ecology, my vibrant landscapes spotlight the vital role of green spaces in community and conservation.

Delighted to be part of the 2025 Enviro-Art Exhibition at the Louise Jones Brown Gallery at Duke University, which is on view throughout April. This year’s theme, “Future Earths: Art for a Sustainable Future,” brings together a diverse and inspiring collection of works by Duke students and local artists, all exploring the powerful intersections of environmental awareness, sustainability, and creative expression.

As a North Carolina-based painter, I was excited to contribute my plein air piece, Day at Duke Park, to the show. Painted en plein air at Duke Park on Knox Street, Durham. A colorful and painterly view through trees and around a bend in this well-loved city park. My composition offers a nod to the vibrant public art by mural artist, Renzo Ortega, titled “Abrazo Eterno—an eternal embrace”, described as symbolizing that Durham always welcomes you, with hope for the project to represent everyone and all who come to utilize the park. Myself as a painter of nature, hope to highlight the importance of sustaining natural green spaces and parks for the well-being and enrichment of a community.
